VOTE!
First off, I want to say to those I’ve interacted with who say something like, “I really don’t like Trump, but I can’t vote for Harris until she <insert some irrelevant BS here>.”
Dudes! This is not a hard choice! It’s a cone filled with ice cream vs one filled with steaming orange dog poop.
Another four years of Trump could very well destroy this country as we know it.
All my life I’ve heard that “This is the most important election in history!”, but this time it’s actually true.
Maybe VP Harris is vanilla and you really wanted chocolate. But vanilla is so much better than dog poop it’s a no brainer.
You have two choices. Don’t sit this one out, pick one and vote!
Now, speaking of dog poop, here’s a social media post I’ve seen going around, and my responses. The post is in block quotes (orange line on the left) and my responses are in italics:
I’m really going out on a limb here and waiting for the backlash, but this is what I believe…
Someone recently asked me why I like Trump. My answer was that there are a lot of things about Trump that I don’t like. But this election is not about choosing the most likeable person.
It is about choosing the best person to run this country. Trump is a convicted felon, he was adjudicated by a judge to be a rapist for doing exactly what he bragged he could do on tape, grabbing a woman by her genitals. But do go on…
We are voting between two vastly different ideologies. We are voting for the country we want to leave our children and grandchildren.
Exactly.
Trump represents that future and has proven that he can deliver. He is a patriot to the core and even served his country for 4 years without pay.
He’s so patriotic he developed bone spurs to avoid military service in the 70s.
He’s so patriotic he took the word of a totalitarian despot over his own intelligence staff about Russian interference in the 2016 election.
He’s so patriotic he sent people to Ukraine to try to get the Ukrainian president to announce they were investigating Hunter Biden and his dad because he didn’t want to run against Joe Biden in 2020.
He’s so patriotic he went to Arlington Cemetery, into an area where no photography or filming is allowed, then had his staff push an Arlington employee away when she tried to stop their illegal and almost sacrilegious action.
Trump then stood by the grave of a fallen hero, grinned and gave a thumbs up. The guy’s an over-privileged, inconsiderate moron who thinks the rules don’t apply to him.
That moment when someone says,
"I can't believe you're voting for Trump". I simply reply, “I'm NOT voting for Trump.”
I beg to differ. If you mark your ballot for Trump, you will have voted for Trump.
I'm voting for the First Amendment and freedom of speech. I'm voting for the right to speak my opinion and not be censored.
Who’s censoring you?
You can say anything you want.
But if you say something hateful, or inaccurate, or violate the terms of service of, say, a social media site there may be consequences for what you say.
If you say something about another person that is not true, you may be sued for libel.
But you can still speak. THIS IS YOU SPEAKING.
I’m voting for secure borders and LEGAL immigration.
At the beginning of this year President Biden supported the negotiation of a $118 billion bipartisan border bill that would have gone a long way towards starting to get our southern border under control.
But Trump didn’t want progress, he wanted an issue he could run on during his presidential campaign, so he instructed his MAGA lackeys in the Senate to spike the bill.
I am voting for election integrity to include mandatory voter ID. (Why would anyone vote against this?)
Because it’s a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist and is designed to make it harder for the “wrong people” to vote.
Voting in a federal election more than once, or if you’re not eligible to vote, is a federal crime that can result in a hefty fine, possible jail time, and if you aren’t a citizen, could get you deported.
Why would anyone make the effort to get into this country, then commit an easily detectable crime that might get them deported?
In order to vote you must swear that you are a US Citizen and eligible to vote, subjecting you to perjury charges if you make a false statement.
For the last two and a half centuries this has been sufficient to keep voter fraud from being a problem that might sway an election.
Yes, in the past there have been political machines who “fixed” elections, but there is absolutely no evidence of that happening now, other than in red states.
In very red states with GOP governors and GOP supermajorities in state government they gerrymander districts, limit access to polling places, drop boxes, etc. to keep the “wrong people” from voting.
The Voting Rights act used to be able to be used to keep states from illegally suppressing voters they don’t like, but it has been eviscerated by the Roberts MAGA Supreme Court.
I'm voting for the Second Amendment and my right to defend my life and my family.
It’s really hard to amend the Constitution, so I suspect the 2nd will be around for a while.
However, up until about the middle of the last century the 2nd amendment was seen by most legal authorities as allowing individuals to have guns as part of a “Well regulated militia.”
The guns available when the Constitution was written were muzzle loaded flint locks. There is no way the founders could have imagined the weapons of war that are being sold in gun stores now.
Since the second and third words of the amendment are “well regulated” my suspicion is that they did not envision a country where there were more guns than people, and pretty much anyone could purchase a weapon that can kill tens of men, women and children in a few minutes.
I think it’s time for a little of that regulation mentioned in the 2nd.
And BTW, if you have a gun in your house your chances of being shot by a loved one or friend, or even yourself, with your own gun go way up.
But you do you.
I'm voting for the police to be respected once again. I am voting for law & order and an end to allowing protesters to trespass and burn our cities, destroying innocent small business. (Tim Walz)
I believe the vast majority of Americans respect the police.
Crime is down nationwide.
I agree that we need to do what we can to keep people’s property safe during demonstrations.
Maybe we should even arrest and jail a young man who brought a weapon of war to a peaceful demonstration and then killed two demonstrators armed with deadly skateboards.
But no, he was white so they let him off.
And I seem to recall a mob of MAGA crazies who did a number on the US Capitol after being egged on by your patriotic candidate, who proceeded to watch the violence on TV for over three hours before calling them off and the telling him he loved them.
He’s actually on trial for that, along with stealing classified documents and other government property and refusing to give any of it back.
Classy guy…
The same guy once said he could shoot someone on Fifth Ave in NYC and not lose any votes. Might land him in jail though, along with the rest of his crimes.
I am voting for personal responsibility and the end of the revolving door where criminals are being put back on the street. (Kamala Harris)
Personal responsibility like Trump dodges for, well, anything that doesn’t go his way? He always has an excuse.
I’ve known people like that and I’ve gotten them out of my life as soon as I could. They’re friggin’ exhausting. And they always want something from you.
Can you give some specifics on criminals being let back out on the street?
Are you really going to try to Willie Horton VP Kamala Harris?
I was under the impression the Kamala Harris was a very good prosecutor who put lots of low-lifes behind bars.
I'm voting for the next Supreme Court Justice(s) to protect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Oh, good! Maybe we can get rid of the MAGA judges who took a 50-year-old constitutional right away from women after lying to the Senate about their plans.
Stare decisis my @$$.
They also ruled that a President is above the law. NOBODY in this country should be above the law.
We need to fix that, and fast.
I’m voting for a return of our troops from foreign countries and the end to America’s involvement in foreign conflicts.
As far as I know none of our troops are currently involved on any major foreign conflicts.
Obama got us out of Iraq.
Due to a deal Trump made with the friggin’ Taliban before he left office Biden had to rush our exit from Afghanistan, resulting in tragic loss of life.
I'm voting for the Electoral College and for the Republic in which we live.
The Electoral College was a jury-rigged compromise to please the smaller, mostly southern & slave holding states so they would agree to the Constitution.
It should be eliminated. It bypasses Majority Rule.
The reason conservative folks like it is that it distorts the vote in their favor.
Since 1988 the only time the GOP candidate won the popular vote was 2004, when George W Bush was re-elected. By starting two unnecessary and stupid wars he became a “wartime president”, and they tend to be popular.
Creating a brand new Medicare Prescription Drug benefit with no way to pay for it he managed to buy enough votes to win the popular vote AND the Electoral College.
He also blew a huge hole in the budget and started the downhill slide to the Great Recession, which a Democratic President was left to clean up, as usual.
Without the Electoral College he wouldn’t have been president to be elected.
It’s time to amend the Constitution so the Presidential and VP candidates who receive the most votes win, just like EVERY OTHER ELECTION in this country.
I’m voting for the continued appointment of Federal Judges who respect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
So why are you voting for Trump? Many of his judges make Constitutionally questionable rulings, that are then supported by his conservative activist Supreme Court justices.
I’m voting for keeping our jobs to remain in America and not be outsourced all over the world - to China, Mexico and other foreign countries.
Both Trump and Harris want to do that. Well Kamala does, I doubt that Trump gives a fetid dingo’s kidney.
I trust her on this more than I do him.
I am voting for doing away with all of the freebies given to all of the illegals and not looking after the needs of the American citizens and homeless veterans.
The vast majority of immigrants work hard, pay taxes and keep their noses clean. They fill jobs that many Americans won’t take. Our economy would collapse without them.
I'm voting for the military & the veterans who fought for this country
What does this have to do with Trump? He thinks folks who dedicate their lives to military service are “suckers and losers.”
I'm voting to keep men out of women's sports.
Now you’re just being mean to Trans people because you don’t like them. Not very Christian if you ask me.
I’m voting for peace progress in the Middle East.
If Trump is president, good luck with that. Most foreign leaders know that they can get anything they want from him with enough flattery, fawning and hookers.
He’s the ultimate Useful Idiot.
I’m voting to fight against human/child trafficking.
Nobody is voting FOR human/child trafficking. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the folks Kamala Harris put in jail were sleaze-bags who trafficked women and children.
I'm voting for Freedom of Religion.
You HAVE Freedom of Religion. What you don’t have is the freedom to tell people who don’t subscribe to your religious beliefs that they must follow your religion’s rules.
I am voting for the return of teaching math, history, and science instead of the indoctrination of our children.
I think you’re referring to teaching accurate US history as indoctrination.
The truth is that a large part of our nation held slaves when the nation was founded.
White settlers treated the indigenous population terribly with full support of the national and state governments.
After the Civil War, fought to emancipate black slaves in the south, Jim Crow laws were passed to keep black folks from being too successful.
A prosperous black suburb of Tulsa, OK was burned to the ground for the sole reason that their white neighbors did not like to see black US Citizens doing well.
During World War II whole families of American Citizens of Japanese Descent were put in concentration camps.
Oddly, German Americans and Italian Americans were left alone.
These are just a few things that happened in our history that we should teach our children so they can learn not to make the same kind of mistakes in the future.
Telling kids the truth isn’t indoctrination.
Forcing schools to post religious writings in classrooms from one specific religion and hiding uncomfortable history, now THAT’s indoctrination.
I'm not just voting for one person. I'm voting for the future of my country.
So am I, we just don’t agree on who has the better vision for the future of our country. As near as I can tell, Trump’s vision doesn’t go beyond the future of Trump.
I'm voting for my children and my grandchildren to ensure their freedoms
Me too. That’s why I’m voting for Kamala Harris.
America is the greatest country in the world, hence why everyone wants to immigrate here. So why do you want to change it?
From where I’m standing it looks to me as if Trump wants to set up a totalitarian oligarchy with himself in charge, similar to how Russia is being run now by Putin.
Change is inevitable.
For the last 250 years or so, America has always been a nation of immigrants, much to the dismay of the indigenous population.
The fact that up until recently the majority of immigrants have come from western Europe does not make recent immigrants from other parts of the globe less valuable to the US.
We need immigrants.
Currently there’s a labor shortage in this country that immigrants can help fill. Springfield, OH had a huge labor shortage and invited Haitian refugees to live and work in their city.
Until Trump and Vance started barking unfounded racist rumors that immigrants were eating pets this was working out fine.
Now the whole city fears violence from racist @$$#0l3s who came in and started sending bomb threats and “investigating” possible pet disappearances.
Immigration brings different points of view, new cultures, new and delicious foods and creates a kind of hybrid vigor to our society.
Why do politicians want to enact policies that have failed in other countries throughout history?
Need some specifics here. Which policies, from what countries?
I'm not voting for Trump.
I'm voting for America.
Oh, good. Glad you came to your senses and will be voting for Kamala Harris.
Copied and pasted, keep it going.
Thanks, but no thanks.
